James B. Murphy III, CFA, is the Senior Portfolio Manager at Castle Wealth Management where he manages portfolios for high net worth trust and investment advisory clients.
Prior to joining Castle Wealth Management, Jim was a senior investment strategist at Comerica Wealth Management as well as a director and senior portfolio manager with BlackRock in Palm Beach, Florida. Jim joined BlackRock following its merger with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) in 2006. His tenure at MLIM began in 1997 as a vice president and portfolio manager in MLIM’s Private Investors Division. Jim also worked for J.P. Morgan as a portfolio manager and vice president where he managed trust and investment advisory accounts in their Palm Beach office. He began his tenure in financial services in the Trust and Investment Management Department of SunTrust in Atlanta as a Portfolio Manager.
Prior to starting his investment career in 1987, Jim was an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps on active duty from 1982 to 1985, where he ultimately attained the rank of Captain prior to leaving the reserves in 1994. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1982 and his MBA from the University of South Carolina in 1987. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1990 and is a member of the CFA Institute, the Atlanta Society of Financial and Investment Professionals, and the CFA Society South Florida. Jim serves on the Board of Directors for several non-profit organizations including the CFA Society South Florida (since 2008) where he is also a past president.
In addition to competing in triathlons since 1985, Jim is an avid sailor and scuba diver. He has two college-aged daughters and enjoys kayaking and hiking with them.
